Tom Michael is an entrepreneurial executive with more than 20 years of extensive management experience in finance, marketing and retail industries. As a proven and effective leader of both start-up and established businesses at the regional and corporate level, Mr. Michael has impacted business growth and maximized profits through aggressively identifying opportunities and providing strategic and tactical business solutions. He is an exceptional communicator with a motivational management style, strong negotiation skills, superior problem-solving abilities and a keen client-needs assessment aptitude.
Mr. Michael has been a member of the executive team at Larrimor’s since 1997 and was named Larrimor’s President in 2000. In this capacity, he directs all operations of a multi-million dollar business named by Esquire magazine as one of the country’s leading specialty stores for selection and service. Noted accomplishments include: growing the company’s net income by 57% in just two years through a series of business development initiatives that expanded sales and opened new markets, introduction of a CRM system to build and solidify customer relationships and oversight of Larrimor’s exclusive FORUM publication as both editor and publisher.
Prior to joining Larrimor’s, Mr. Michael worked on Wall Street in various banking, trading and auditing leadership capacities. In 1985, he jointly acquired and managed Michael Seiff & Co. – a corporate holding company for the successful gourmet cheese manufacturer and food producer, Avant-Garde Foods. Over a 10-year period, he was a major force in building the business into a national concern. Mr. Michael sold his interest in the company in 1997.
Mr. Michael holds a degree in economics and international relations from The American University. He is actively involved in philanthropy and economic development in Downtown Pittsburgh and the region as a partner in Blue Tree Capital, an executive and finance committee member of Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership and a board member of Boy Scouts of Greater Pittsburgh. Most recently he chaired the Audit Committee for Visit Pittsburgh and held a board seat for 8 years. Mr. Michael was just elected to the Board of Bridgeway Capital, and The Clear Thoughts Foundation.
He is an avid Sailor and Skier with his Daughter Lauren, they are both Certified Sailing Captains. And have sailed in a variety of locations.
