U. S. Steel’s Impact on Dementia
Pittsburgh, PA – This story embodies the kindness of heart found within our great city of Pittsburgh… this is how Hayley D. Jameson, President and Founder of the local non-profit, Clear Thoughts Foundation (CTF), felt after receiving a donation from U. S. Steel in honor of her late father, Don ‘DJ’ Jameson.
Don was a brilliant man who ran part of U. S. Steel’s Tubular Division before choosing early retirement to enjoy his “golden years” with Sandy, his wife of 50 years. Unfortunately, his “golden years" were not very golden. Sadly, they were just the opposite as he began battling Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) at the age of 65. After experiencing a lack of viable drugs or treatment options that would offer any sort of hope to Don’s battle, Hayley became determined to turn this curse into a conviction. As such, along with her brother D. Matthew Jameson III and their dear friend Sharon Sippel, she started Clear Thoughts Foundation (CTF), a non-profit foundation, focused on funding the discovery of breakthrough drugs and novel treatments to eliminate dementia. As Hayley passionately shares “We will no longer sit idle, watching our loved ones die of this horrific disease, we will take action so that one day we can all live in a world free of dementia.”
It is no secret that medical research can be costly, slow, and face strenuous obstacles when working to bring a drug or treatment to market, which is why in 2020, CTF launched their novel research cohort, the CTF Consortium. This collaborative group of three includes a renowned researcher, a world class surgeon, and a well-respected clinician, who are working together to accelerate finding a cure for dementia, all while allowing donated dollars to make 3X the impact!
In response to learning of Don’s story and the tragedy that one of their own faced, U. S. Steel made a generous charitable donation in support of the CTF Consortium’s research efforts to continue funding the fight against dementia! U. S. Steel's support of CTF is a reflection of their caring culture and desire to support the communities in which they operate. “U.S. Steel’s generous donation to CTF reflects the very best of the commitment of Pittsburgh’s businesses to support our community. Dementia is a rising problem in our world today, with an anticipated 153 million individuals being diagnosed by 2050. We need the support of individuals and businesses to help us fund the discovery of drugs and treatments to eliminate dementia, and U. S. Steel’s generous donation is helping us get there,” shares co-founder D. Matthew Jameson III. CTF continues to work towards seeing a world free of dementia and is grateful to U. S. Steel for their care and action to honor former employee, Don ‘DJ’ Jameson.
